About Us
A community looking after its own hospital.
Friends of Nenagh Hospital is a volunteer-run charity that has stood beside Nenagh Hospital and the people who depend on it for over 35 years.
Our Mission.
The Friends of Nenagh Hospital is a volunteer-led charity dedicated to enhancing the care delivered at our local hospital. We raise funds in the community, and we spend them in the community — purchasing medical equipment, improving patient comfort, and supporting the staff who keep our hospital running.
We were founded by people who had been through the hospital's doors as patients, as family members, as neighbours. That's still who we are today. Every euro raised here in North Tipperary stays here, working for the people of North Tipperary.
Our History
Over 35 years of giving back.
The Friends are founded
A group of Nenagh volunteers came together to support the local hospital, establishing the Friends of Nenagh Hospital as a registered charity. Confirm founding year.
First major equipment purchase
The charity funds its first significant piece of medical equipment for the hospital — setting the template for what the Friends could achieve together. Confirm year and equipment.
€43,000 for ultrasound scanners
The Friends fund point-of-care ultrasound equipment for the Emergency Department — one of the charity’s largest single purchases to date.
Tobin family memorial donation
Ann Tobin and her daughters Rhianna and Emily raise €15,000 in memory of Peter Tobin, donated in full to the Friends.

Our Volunteers
Out in the community.
Every year our volunteers take to the streets of Nenagh and beyond for our annual street collection — one of the most visible and well-supported events in the community calendar.

Transparency
How we operate.
100% volunteer-run
We have no paid staff and no salaried positions. Every person involved in the Friends gives their time freely — which means every cent raised goes to the hospital.
Every euro stays local
Funds raised by the Friends are directed exclusively to Nenagh Hospital. We do not share donations with any other organisation or national body.
Fully registered and audited
Friends of Nenagh Hospital is a registered Irish charity (RCN 20076735 · CHY 16300). Our accounts are independently audited and filed with the Charities Regulator each year.
Our relationship with the hospital.
Nenagh Hospital is part of HSE Mid West and the UL Hospitals Group. It is funded by the State and run by the HSE. The Friends of Nenagh Hospital is a separate, independent charity — we are not the hospital, and donations to us do not replace public funding for the hospital's day-to-day operation.
What we do is fund the extras: the diagnostic equipment that arrives sooner because we paid for it, the patient comforts that aren't in the HSE budget, the small things that make a hospital stay a little easier. We work in close partnership with hospital management to identify what's needed most.
Could you join our committee or volunteer at events?
We are always looking for enthusiastic people to help with fundraising, events, and administration. No experience necessary — just a willingness to give a little time to your local hospital.
